I am Carla Power. I am a second grade teacher at Stanleytown Elementary School. This is my 23rd 1/2 year of teaching. I have taught first, second and third grade. First is my favorite grade to teach. I love using technology in the classroom.
My husband Ernie and I have been married for 23 years. My husband works in Rocky Mount. On weekends he tours the east coast as dobro player for the bluegrass gospel group Mark Templeton and Pocket Change. They are currently the Appalachian Bluegrass Group of the year.
I am also a mother of two wonderful kids. My son Ethan is 20 and soon graduating Virginia Western Community College and then will transfer to Virginia Tech in the fall. He also works for Kroger in Rocky Mount. When he is not in school or at work, he is a very talented musician who plays around the Franklin County and Roanoke area. My daughter Rachel is 15 and a Freshman at Franklin County High School, where she is a cheerleader. She is also a dancer and competes on a competition dance team. Right now her main goal is to pass her test to get her learners permit.
Our final family member is our cat Kimba. Kimba was adopted last September. She is has added to our family. She has helped our family cope with the lost of Leo our beloved cat of 21 years who died last summer.
